West Brom Manager Search Feels A Bit Meh

With West Bromwich Albion on a managerial hunt following the departure of Alan Pardew, Derek McInnes and Mick McCarthy are the two main names in the frame in the media.

The Birmingham Mail discuss the relative merits of Aberdeen gaffer McInnes whilst Sky Sports carry the speculation about current Ipswich Town manager McCarthy.

Credit where it's due, McCarthy has shown he's more than able to manage on a budget at Portman Road in his years with them, and largely it's been more successful than not with Play Off pushes, but he does of course come with some Black Country baggage.

McInnes has done well in the one horse race that is the Scottish Premiership with Celtic's dominance over the last few years and feeding that speculation is the fact Darren Moore is a former teammate from his spell with us back in the early noughties.

But neither are really getting me off my seat.

With the inevitable drop I think everyone knows is coming, McCarthy has the experience and he could steady the ship, and we know he can wheel and deal and we will absolutely have to next season - Positive Accounts Contain West Brom Bombshell.

He does have promotion success under his belt as well, but with the Wolves tie given there will be anger amongst the fans next term if we return to the Championship - is that history worth taking the risk on if he doesn't manage to get off to a quick start?

McInnes is younger, more of a build option but other than his few years with Bristol City, his experience is in Scotland but he's had some good successes.

I'm just not really wowed.

Fans were quick to point out their hopes that Moore's status at the club wasn't ruined by his caretaker period, for those who remember McInnes fondly that would also be a risk if we didn't make a quick start and turned into next season's Sunderland.

It's just all a bit meh.
